Classic Auto Works | Know the Value Before You Buy
Is it worth the asking price?
Buying a classic car is about more than finding a vehicle you love. It is also about understanding what it is worth and whether the asking price reflects its condition, history, specification and current market demand.
At Classic Auto Works, we help you make a more informed purchasing decision by providing independent market-value guidance based on available market information and our knowledge of classic cars.
Whether you have found a car advertised online, are considering a purchase from a specialist dealer or are negotiating a private sale, we can help you assess the asking price before you commit.
What does our service cover?
Understanding the market
We research relevant available information, including comparable advertised vehicles, recent auction results where accessible and other relevant market indicators, to help establish a realistic indication of the car’s potential market position.
Considering condition and history
A classic car’s value can vary significantly depending on its overall condition, originality, maintenance history, restoration quality, specification and provenance.
We consider the information available about the particular vehicle and explain how these factors may influence its value.
Assessing the asking price
We help you understand whether the asking price appears reasonable in the context of the available evidence, whether it sits towards the higher or lower end of the indicated market range, and what questions may be worth asking the seller.
Helping you negotiate
Armed with a clearer understanding of the market, you may be better placed to discuss the price with the seller and make a considered offer.
Our aim is to give you greater clarity before making what can be a significant investment.
Our pricing
Market-Value Guidance — £35
Ideal for buyers who have identified a particular classic car and want an informed view of its asking price before proceeding.
The service includes:
- Review of the vehicle details and advertised asking price.
- Research into relevant comparable vehicles and available market information.
- Consideration of the stated condition, specification and history.
- A written summary of our findings and an indicative market-value range, where sufficient evidence is available.
If the available information is insufficient to support a meaningful estimate, we will explain the limitations rather than give you a misleading figure.
Need a closer look?
If you would like an assessment of the vehicle itself, Classic Auto Works also offers a separate pre-purchase assessment for £110.
This includes advance research, up to one hour inspecting the car in person and a written report afterwards. Travel is charged separately at 48p per mile from our base in Stourbridge, calculated on the return journey.
Make a more informed decision
A car’s advertised price is not necessarily the price it will sell for, and two examples of the same model can have very different values.
Our market-value guidance is designed to help you understand the available evidence, recognise the factors that matter and approach your purchase with greater confidence.

Please note: Market-value guidance is an indicative opinion based on available information, not a formal valuation for insurance, probate, taxation, lending or legal purposes. Advertised prices may differ from actual transaction prices. No physical inspection is included in the £45 service, and the guidance is not a guarantee of a vehicle’s value or future resale price.
